Baby Slings

A sling has to be one of the cheapest and most convenient ways to transport your newborn baby and there is a lot of evidence to suggest many merits and advantages of carrying your baby for as long as possible. Studies claim that carrying a baby for 1-2 hours a day will ensure it crys less and sleeps longer, carrying a child upright and massaging their tummy against yours can make all the difference for a windy or colicky baby.

A fabric sling supports a baby’s spine and neck. This is important for very young babies who need to be held in a curled position. Their legs are held in a frog-like position which tends to help them sit up and stand up earlier. Newborns need to have their head and neck fully supported but from about 5-6 months can be carried facing forwards.

Babies develop a very strong bond with the person carrying them, so it’s a fantastic way for busy parents to catch up on quality time with their baby. Use a sling to carry your baby around the house as you get on with your unavoidable chores or whenever you go out for short trips use the sling instead of a pushchair or stroller. The increased touching gained whilst carrying your baby naturally stimulates mothering and fathering hormones and so helps with early bonding.

Carried babies are involved in their carers' world and so can be more stimulated and content. They participate in life, rather than see it as a spectator. Rather than being at a level with everyone’s knees, they can see faces and expressions.
