Easter holidays – 5 great ideas for keeping the kids busy

Now that we are in the swing of spring there is a feeling of excitement in the air as your little ones look forward to their Easter holidays. This can be a stressful time for parents with the thought of having to entertain them for three straight weeks added to the mammoth cost of days out. However, there are easier ways. Fun Easter activities don´t have to cost a fortune or even involve leaving the house! Holidays are a great excuse to spend some quality family time together but if your brain is a bit frazzled from the school run, the after-school activities and the sleepless nights here are some simple ideas to help keep you all amused this Easter:

Fun in the Kitchen

You don´t have to be an Ainsley or a Delia to get a bit creative with cooking. There are many simple and fun recipes out there that will catch the kid´s imagination. Here is a chocolatey example to get your tastebuds tingling.

You will need:

  • 100 g bar of dark chocolate

  • 50 g butter

  • 1 tablespoon of golden syrup

  • 1 tablespoon of drinking chocolate

  • 125 g of cornflakes

  • A large bag of mini eggs

  • Approximately 15 Fairy Cake Cases(pack of 50, £2.99)

  • Melt the chocolate, butter, syrup and drinking chocolate together in a ban marie.

  • Take off the heat and stir in the cornflakes

  • Place the mixture into the cake cases creating Easter nest shapes

  • Place in the fridge

  • Once cool add one or two mini eggs to each of your yummy Easter nests

Display them on the Spotty Cake Plate (£17.99) and try to make sure the kids don´t eat them all so you can get a taste!

Explore Somewhere

Castles, historical buildings, a kick about in the park or a walk by the river any new entertaining experience where they get to spend time with mum and dad are going to fun and exciting for your little ones. Just think about what their interests are:

Animal Adventures

If your child is an animal enthusiast then the zoo, aquarium or wildlife sanctuary seems the obvious choice.

Thrill Seeker

If you are a family who want something a little more adrenaline filled then a day at a theme park is a fun option.

Museums

You could link in with a topic your child is learning about at school by visiting a museum which is a great way to encourage and engage them in something a bit more educational.

Now that you have decided where you´re going you need to remember all those essentials that you need to take with you. If you are worried about losing them in the crowds then the bosieboo Out of Distance Monitor (£14.99) is for you. It is basically a child alarm that alerts you when your inquisitive youngster ventures outside your preset distance. To make sure that they keep hold of all those toys they insist on bringing on their adventure and to teach them to be responsible for there own belongings try supplying them with a Toddler Day Sack (£12.99).

Another worry is toilet tantrums especially if you looking after children of different ages on your days out. The Cushie Traveller (£16.99) can help by making any normal toilet seat child friendly as well as being wipe clean, light weight and portable.

Try a New Sport

Sports are the fun and healthy family activity that doesn´t have to amount to a great expense. You can make it as structured or unstructured as you (and your child want) meaning that teaching them a bit of tennis in the back garden is just as enjoyable as tennis coaching at your local tennis club.

Sport doesn´t have to be about competition either. Just being outside and active on some Bronx Rollerblades (£34.99) or on their Retro Trike (£59.99) will be enough to keep them entertained and interacting with their friends.

Do an art project

It doesn´t have to be a masterpiece to keep them entertained for an afternoon. In fact it doesn´t even have to be messy as they can get creative in 100's of way. Visit our arts, craft and creative play section for a great range of products to keep them enthralled and creatively stimulated!

Read Something

Reading to them or even getting them to read out load to you is a great way for them to learn about new things and it can be fun too! Reading a good book is a fab way to engage them and teach them about the world. It is also a nice way to keep their brains active during the break from school. However, make sure you choose a book that is right for your child´s age group as something too difficult for them could discourage them from trying.

Well that´s it; we hope this short guide has given you a few ideas to keep you and your little Easter bunnies busy over the Easter holidays.
